I bought it 3 years ago and installed it right away, using a y-connector on my washing machine cold water bib. I feel a little bad about not having left a review earlier, but here I am, over 3 years later and it has been working full time ever since with no significant problems. If you have at least some level of home maintenance skill, meaning you could hook up a washing machine or something like that, and maybe that is over stating the skill required to install and maintain this item.I have an inline filter that I replace every few months. That is simple to add but might not be needed if you trust your tap water. I recommend adding a filter but that is not at all necessary for the waterer to function. Maybe the simple float valve built in has been more reliable because of the filter but I've never tried it without a filter so that's just a road not taken so I don't know.Cleaning is easy. I highly recommend that you clean it with antibacterial dish soap and rinse well before returning to use. The float flips up by pulling gently on the sides. Clean it well. You will get a good feel of how often you need to do this by observing how dirty it gets. Your results will vary based on how clean your water supply is and how much water is actually consumed. The tag on the brass water attachment says it is pre-adjusted and not to turn it, but after some duration you might have to adjust it to fix overflow or low level in the bowl. Turning the brass attachment is very sensitive so use some teflon plumbing tape or some non-permanent but waterproof thread sealer or other adhesive to help keep it from becoming too loose and turning by accident. I don't speak for the manufacturer so use this piece of advice at your discretion. I only mention it because some have reported problems that might be remedied by such adjustment, and because I have had to make such adjustments to mine.I've just purchased a second one to give as a gift.
